Uncov's Bedlam Ballroom

Uncov's first party was last Friday night, and it was a full scale nerd invasion of San Francisco's Mars Bar. There was much booze to be had, and I've got to thank everyone who showed up, especially those of you who bought me a drink. Fine work.

You're Internets Famous

Everybody who was anybody showed up. Yeah, that's right. We had some big names there, like Laughing Squid's Scott Beale, Pownce's Leah Culver, and the Valleywaggers. I felt so honored to have such a showing of people who are only marginally important to a small subset of the Silicon Valley population. I am so cool.

The Valleywag crew was out in full force. Megan McCarthy (to the right, with me), the party correspondent, was taking pictures and trying to suck people for information all night. The trick to interacting with Megan is to feed her a steady stream of legit gossip, with one little nugget that's a complete lie mixed somewhere in there.

Nick Douglas, the runt of the Valleywag litter, showed up to pay his respects. He just sat around and drank White Russians, giving me shit over using the Impact font in Uncov's images. As usual, Douglas added nothing substantive to the conversation.

Even Owen Thomas, Valleywag's editor, came to our shindig. Owen wore a Kangol hat, failing to realize that unless you're either:

  1. a jazz musician, OR
  2. Samuel L. Jackson

you look like a douchebag in a Kangol hat. You can't argue with facts.

Leah Culver's Voice Makes Me Want To Gouge My Eyeballs Out With A Fork

There was a strong showing of the ex-Wellsphere people, the Wellnots. These are the same guys who gave me all the good dirt on Ron Gutman and crew. They brought me a Wellsphere t-shirt, and there's a picture of me in this thing floating around somewhere. Terrific. I should have been the one buying these guys drinks, for all the shit they've been through.

A few people in the crowd had the idea that we were the legitimate media, and got all chickenshit when we tried to shoot the breeze with them. I was far too drunk to recall meaningful details about any conversation, let alone mention them in an article. I are serious reporter. This are serious blog.

All in all it was a good time. We thought we'd have trouble getting 25 people to show up but more than 70 of you came. We're definitely going to throw another one of these, so watch for it.
